2/16 Opportunities to make a difference Help Support Julia from our IPV 14 Storm team.
Since August, she has been working on a service project which she created through a leadership camp she attended this summer (Julie Foudy Sports Leadership Academy). Her project involved raising money for the American Cancer Society and to raise cancer awareness. Julia has made over 350 cancer colored wristbands, developed a bulletin board, is hosting a Panther Dance for Cancer for her fellow students, and created a "cancer tree of awareness" that is displayed in her school. There are currently 800+ ribbons tied to her tree that honor people who have battled cancer! She has recruited her student council, her local park district, her local high school, and several local businesses to help with her cause. She has successfully raised both funds and awareness for her charity. Her project, along with 11 others, has been entered in a competition through the McDonald's Corporation. The girl whose project receives the most online votes, will win a trip to the 2012 London Olympics. Here, the winner will serve as a junior leader for the McDonald's "Champions of Play" program. Clearly, an awesome opportunity!
YOU can help by voting for Julia. It only takes a minute of your time and is for a worthy cause. http://contest.juliefoudyleadership.com/node/118
VOTING ENDS TUESDAY, FEB. 21!!

2/16 Opportunites to Make a difference
IPV and NLA Players and Families:
During the month of February, IPV will partner with Next Level Athletes to host a shoe drive to benefit Soles4Souls.
Soles4Soles is a Nashville-based charity that collects shoes from the warehouses of footwear companies and the closets of people like you. The charity distributes these shoes to people in need, regardless of race, religion, class, or any other criteria. Since 2005, Soles4Souls has delivered over 16 million pairs of new and gently worn shoes. The shoes have been distributed to people in over 127 countries, including Kenya, Thailand, Nepal and the United States. Soles4Souls has been featured in Runner's World, Ladies’ Home Journal, National Geographic’s Green Guide, and The New York Times. It has appeared on CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, BBC, CNN and thousands of regional news outlets across North America.
Collection boxes will be placed at Walker Athletics the 2nd week of February. For each donated pair of shoes, we ask that you donate a $1.00 to help offset shipping costs. When donating shoes, please tie the shoe laces together and secure the pair with a rubber band. Monetary donations ($1.00/pair) should be turned into the IPV Office (for IPV players and families) and the Office of Titcus Pettigrew of NLA (for all NLA players and families); please look for the monetary donation bin.
